Thakita thadhimi thakita thadimi thandaana...
Hrudaya layala jathula gathula thillaana...
The rhythm of heart is a beautiful song of Thillana
Thakita thadhimi thakita thadimi thandaana...
Hrudaya layala jathula gathula thillaana... (repeat)
Tadabadu adugula tappani taalaana...
in the rhythm of the faltering steps which remain true to the beat
Tadisina pedavula reygina... raagaana..
In the raga forming from the wet lips
Tadabadu adugula tappani taalaana...
Tadisina pedavula reygina... raagaana...
Shrutini layani okati Cheysi...
by uniting the melody and rhythm
Thakita thadhimi thakita thadimi thandaana...
Hrudaya layala jathula gathula thillaana...
Thakita thadhimi thakita thadimi thandaana...
Hrudaya layala jathula gathula thillaana....
Narudi brathuku natana...
The life of a man is an act
Eeswarudi thalapu ghatana..
The thought of the God is the incident
Aa renti natta naduma neekendukintha thapana..
Why are you so attached despite knowing these?
The poet means that our destiny is the work of God, so stop attaching yourself too much to anything
Narudi brathuku natana...
Eeswarudi thalapu ghatana..
Aa renti natta naduma neekendukintha thapana.. (repeat)
Telusa manasa neekidi telisi alusa...
Oh heart! Do you know this or do you ignore it despite knowing this?
Telisi teliyani aasala vayasee varasaa...
Or is this the game of the half witted age
Telusa manasa neekidi telisi alusaa...
Telisi teliyani aashala la la laa la laaa.... (repeat)
Yetiloni alalavanti kantiloni kalalu kadipi
The waves of the sea are transient. They come and go, similarly the by dreaming
Gunde alanu andiyaluga chesi...
by making the heartbeat as the amulets (dancing to the rhythm of heart!)
Thakita thadhimi thakita thadimi thandaana...
Hrudaya layala jathula gathula thillaana...
Tadabadu adugula tappani tadikitathom tadikitathom tadikitathom
Tadisna pedavula reygina... aa.. aa.. aa...
Shrutini layani okati Cheysi...
Thakita thadhimi thakita thadimi thandana
Hrudaya layala jathula gathula thillaana...
Paluku raaga madhuram..
Your word is a beautiful raga
Nee brathuku natya sikharam
Your life is a summit of dance
Saptha giruluga velisey suswaraala gopuram...
together form the temple of seven hills
Paluku raaga madhuram..
Nee brathuku natya sikharam
Saptha giruluga velisey suswaraala gopuram...
Alarulu kuriyaga naadenadey...
Alakala kulukula alamelmanga....
This is a song written by Annamacharya which means the Godess Alimelmanga dances as the spectators clap (not really sure!) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y96_dW6Cdi0)
Alarulu kuriyaga naadenadey...
Alakala kulukula alamelmanga....
Anna annamayya maata,
This song by Annamayya
Achha thene tenugu paata..
is a true telugu song
Pallavinchu pada kavithalu paadi...
and I am singing that song which is filled with telugu verses which feel like the taste of honey
Aa..a..aa...aaa..
Aaa..aa...aaa..aaa.
Thakita thadhimi thakita thadimi thandaana...
Hrudaya layala jathula gathula thillaana...
Tadabadu adugula tappani taalaana...
Tadisina pedavula regina... raagaana...
Shruthini layani okati jeysi...

Excellent translation of the lyrics of this wonderful song set to a beautiful tune by the magician Illayaraja and sung with such divine grace by the immortal SPB Sir
ReplyDeleteHey Rohit, commendable job. Made it so easy for an ignorant telugu chap (uninitiated into the beautiful language) like me. Having been born and brought up outside of AP and having few other telugu friends the nuances of the language are often lost on me. Now in the second innings of life when I look to quench my thirst for an understanding of the poetry, I stumbled upon your blog. Well done Brother
